In 1915, Albert Einstein introduced his theory of general relativity, which remains the leading theory of gravity and the foundation of modern cosmology to this day.

In this talk, Prof. Koksbang will provide an accessible introduction to general relativity and demonstrate how it is used to model the universe as a whole. She will also explain how this theory, combined with astronomical observations, leads to the conclusion that 95% of the universe consists of mysterious phenomena known as dark matter and dark energy. Finally, she will introduce the concept of cosmic backreaction and explore whether the "dark side" of the universe might not be necessary after all.
